What
is chiropractic all about?
Chiropractic is the science and art that
concerns itself with the restoration of good health by restoring
and maintaining a functioning nervous system, without the use of
drugs or surgery. The Doctor of Chiropractic, through a procedure
called an adjustment, helps to restore misaligned vertabrae to a
more normal position, thus allowing the nerves to properly communicate
with the rest of the body and to let the body heal itself properly
and naturally. TOP
What
is a Doctor of Chiropractic?
Chiropractors are first-contact physicians
who possess the diagnostic skills to differentiate health conditions
that are amenable to their management from those conditions that
require referral or co-management. Chiropractors provide conservative
management of neuromusculoskeletal disorders and related functional
clinical conditions including, but not limited to, back pain, neck
pain, and headaches.
Chiropractors are expert providers of spinal
and other therapeutic manipulation/adjustments. They also utilize
a variety of manal, mechanical and electrical therapeutic modalities.
Chiropractors also provide patient evaluation and instructions regarding
disease prevention and health promotion through proper nutrition,
exercise, and lifestyle modification among others. TOP
What
is an Adjustment?
Chiropractic care is known (but not exclusively)
for its use of the adjustment, also called manipulation. An adjustment
is a precise procedure in which the trained Doctor of Chiropractic
exerts specific corrective pressure at specific places on your spine
or other joints. When a thorough examination reveals joints that
are not in proper function, adjustments are applied to correct joint
alignment and mobility, relieve associated muscle and nerve tension,
improve balance and assist healing. Dr. Warner uses the activator
method and the manual method for adjustments. TOP
Do Adjustments
Hurt?
Under normal circumstances, Chiropractic
adjustments are painless. In cases of recent trauma, such as whiplash,
mild discomfort may be experienced due to inflammation. TOP
What
is Subluxation?
In simplest terms, a subluxation (aka Vertebral
Subluxation) s when one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae)
move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal
nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between
each of the bones in your spine. This pressure or irritation on
the nerves causes those nerves to malfunction and interfere with
the signals travelling over those nerves.
How does this affect you? Your nervous system
controls and coordinates all the functions of your body. If you
interfere with the signals travelling over the nerves, parts of
your body will not get the proper nerve messages and will not be
able to function at 100% of their innate abilites. In other words,
some part of your body will not be working properly.
It is the resposibility of the Doctor of
Chiropractic to locate subluxations, and reduce or correct them.
This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments specifically
designed to correct the vertebral subluxations in your spine. Chiropractors
are the only professionals who undergo years of training to be the
experts at correcting subluxations. TOP
